Vol’s Jackson dismissed from team

30 08 2011

Janzen Jackson, junior safety, was dismissed from the team Wednesday, according to Tennessee coach Derek Dooley.

No specific reason was given for the former five-star recruit’s dismissal. Jackson withdrew from the school in February to deal with undisclosed personal problems.

“Although I am disappointed with this outcome,” Dooley said in a statement, “we will never compromise the long-term organizational values and goals we maintain here at Tennessee.”

In 2009, he was one of three Tennessee players arrested and charged with armed robbery. He was cleared of the charges two weeks later.

Jackson was a second-team All-South Eastern Conference selection last season and led the Volunteers with five interceptions. In his first two seasons, Jackson started 22 games.
